TechFlow Sep 16: Cointelegraph reports Carolyn Wilkins, a member of the Bank of England's Financial Policy Committee, said dollar-denominated stablecoins are expanding the dollar's global reach and significantly boosting demand for US Treasuries. Speaking at Queen's University Belfast, Wilkins said dollar stablecoins give the dollar 'a significant first-mover advantage' by cutting cross-border settlement costs and widening access to dollar assets. Major stablecoin issuers have become big players in the Treasury market: USDT and USDC together held nearly $150 billion of Treasuries at the end of 2025 and bought about $33 billion more during the year, per data Wilkins cited and Cointelegraph compiled. Over $300 billion of stablecoins circulate globally, 98% of it dollar-pegged. Wilkins also flagged the risks behind this two-way relationship.
