US Senate fails to pass crypto regulation bill CLARITY Act
TechFlow Sep 16: Cointelegraph reports the US Senate on Tuesday failed the procedural motion to advance the CLARITY Act, blocking it from full debate: 49 in favor, 50 against, with at least 60 needed. The bill aimed to create the first federal regulatory framework for digital assets and clarify the jurisdictional line between the CFTC and the SEC, and had gone through months of maneuvering. Before the August recess it was stuck mainly on the proposed ethics clause restricting officials and their families from issuing or holding digital assets in office. Though President Trump agreed to strengthen the limit, on the eve of the vote 18 state attorneys general came out against the bill, arguing it would weaken states' ability to fight crypto fraud. With fewer than 36 working days before the new Congress is seated after the midterms, the legislation is not expected to move this year, leaving US crypto's federal regulatory home unresolved.
