The bill aimed to clarify the CFTC-SEC regulatory boundary for digital asset markets, but its cloture tally fell well short of the 60 votes needed. The setback triggered a selloff in crypto-linked stocks, with Coinbase and Circle hardest hit at about 10% down intraday. Miners and treasury companies took heavy blows too: American Bitcoin fell about 8%, Riot Platforms about 6%, and Strategy, the largest bitcoin holder, about 5%.
