PANews Sep 15: TechCrunch, citing the Wall Street Journal, reports that OpenAI has acquired smartphone camera maker Glass Imaging in a deal worth over $300 million. Glass Imaging uses AI to overcome the physical size limits of smartphone cameras: instead of editing photos after the shot, its neural networks learn different camera systems and produce better images from the moment the shutter is pressed. Founded in 2019 and headquartered in Los Altos, California, the company had raised about $30 million. It was founded by former Apple engineers Ziv Attar and Tom Bishop, who previously led the team that built Apple's Portrait Mode.
