PANews on Sep 12: OpenAI CEO Sam Altman told Fortune on Friday that OpenAI and other leading AI firms may soon announce cooperation to slow development and jointly address safety risks. Asked about a safety plan with Anthropic's Dario Amodei, Elon Musk and Google's Demis Hassabis, Altman said 'I think that will happen' but declined to pre-announce private discussions. Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon recently resigned accusing both companies of racing toward self-evolving superintelligence, and Anthropic's alignment lead put the risk of AI-caused human extinction within a decade above 10%.
