UK House of Lords passes amendment mandating a digital asset strategy
PANews on Sep 11: Cointelegraph reports the House of Lords passed 194-138 an amendment to the Financial Services and Markets Bill requiring the Treasury to draft and publicly consult a digital asset strategy within 12 months of the act taking effect. The strategy would cover crypto assets, stablecoins, tokenized securities and digital financial infrastructure, addressing innovation, consumer protection and institutional access to banking, payments and clearing. The amendment came from Conservative peer Baroness Neville-Rolfe over Labour government opposition, which called it insufficient for the pace of digital assets and broader regulatory needs; the bill returns to the Commons to decide whether to accept it.
