PANews on Aug 27: Bloomberg reports the UK government will give the Bank of England a new secondary objective to promote digital currency and payments innovation, subordinate to its primary financial stability mandate. City Minister Lucy Rigby said tokenization and distributed ledger technology have the potential to transform global financial markets, and the objective will keep the UK's financial services sector competitive, following the joint UK-US taskforce on stablecoin adoption. The BoE dropped its proposed caps on personal and corporate stablecoin holdings in June, and Deputy Governor Sarah Breeden welcomed the new mandate.
