Merchants say consumers have switched to bank cards and some staff are no longer familiar with Bitcoin payment apps. Price volatility, clunkier UX versus cards and holders' tendency to hoard rather than spend have weakened local BTC circulation. El Salvador retains Bitcoin's legal tender status, but merchant acceptance became voluntary under the IMF loan arrangement.
